Emeralds are a member of the Beryl family. Prized for their range of pure blue-green hues, the finest quality Emeralds are found in Colombia.
Beryls occur in pegmatites which develop in certain metamorphic rocks and the stones of this class fetch some of the highest prices in
jewelry market today. Their hardness exceeds that of Apatatite, Quartz and Feldspar, ideally suiting them for fine jewelry. Other members of the Beryl
family include Aquamarine, Golden Beryl, Heliodore, Morganite and Goshenite. Beryls are used in the industrial manufacture of alloys.
The word Beryl derives from the Greek Beryllos , signifying any green gemstone.
Emerald is the birthstone of May.
