Topaz comes in a rainbow of colours, and is generally found in igneous rocks.
The finest specimens derive from North America, South America, and Eastern
Europe. The prismatic crystals are frequently flawed and clean stones are not
common. Topaz is faceted to display its brilliance. A crimson hue may be
produced in this gem by heat treating apricot coloured stones. Because of its
almost infinite variety of colours, Topaz has long been a favourite in the
jewelry industry.
